"Americans are of two minds as to how we ought to live" begins Jackson in his "A Sense of Place, A Sense of Time" essay.
How do we as designers keep the sense of place alive with the constant push and pull of opinions on how we 'ought to live?'
What is midway between the European community and the urban sprawl of America?

weathering.shadow.memory
do you feel, like Anderson, that shadow is more important than compositions of form?
when designing, how is thinking in shadow different from other ways of thinking about design?

proportion
do you feel it is important to look at classical architecture to derive proportions for modern (new) architecture? or should we base our designs off of a new type of proportioning system?

people/place/occasion
"articulate the in-between." -Aldo van Eyck
how do you feel about expressing the "in-between" in your designs? like Eyck, do you feel that its the in-between that we experience and relate to and that place and occasion mean more than space and time?

handmade vs technology
we no longer live in a 'workmanship' society.
what affects does this have on architecture and design? what affects does this have on the way you design?
has our dependency on technology enhanced our designing abilities or has it crippled our designing abilities? if so in what ways.

green design
looking at the advances we as designers have made from 400 b.c. to 2009, should we live 'green' to save the planet 10,000 years from now, or should we make the change because it could help 10 years from now?
because if we keep at the same rate, there most likely will not be a planet to help 10,000 years into the future.
